Katan is a thread prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments according to requirements giving a firm structure to the background fabric. Katan is a plain-woven fabric with pure silk threads. It consists of two lines twisted together and is mainly used for the warp of light materials.

Weave –Cutwork Tilfi

Tilfi weaving is a type of weaving technique used to create intricate designs and patterns in Banarasi silk sarees. The term "Tilfi" is derived from the Hindi words "Til" (meaning sesame seeds) and "Phool" (meaning flower). This technique involves creating small flower-like motifs using fine metallic threads, which are woven into the fabric using a handloom. The metallic threads used in Tilfi weaving are often made of gold or silver, which gives the saree a rich and luxurious look.

The weavers carefully create each motif by hand, and the resulting sarees are known for their beautiful and intricate designs. Tilfi weaving is one of the many weaving techniques used in Banarasi silk sarees, and it is highly valued for its unique and intricate designs.
