A wine purple katan silk saree handwoven in Varanasi in the zari tanchoi technique, with a fine all-over floral jaal worked in tonal zari across the body. The pallu opens into a broad zari panel of ogee-lattice florals, edged with a fine zigzag border that catches the light against the deep ground.

Tanchoi is one of the most refined Banarasi weaves — multiple weft threads woven into a smooth, satin-like surface with no floats on the reverse, giving the saree its characteristic sheen and weight. The result is a piece that reads understated up close yet luminous from across a room.

Suited to weddings, receptions and festive occasions — pairs well with gold, polki or uncut diamond jewellery.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Katan is a thread, prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments according to requirements giving a firm structure to the background fabric. Katan is a plain woven fabric with pure silk threads.

The Weaving Technique

Weave – Tanchoi Weave

Zari Tanchoi weaving is a time-honored Indian technique that involves weaving metallic threads (zari) into silk fabric to create exquisite, intricate patterns. When combined with Tanchoi weaving, it creates a reversible fabric with a unique iridescent quality, perfect for creating luxurious and elegant Indian garments such as sarees and lehengas. The creation of Zari Tanchoi fabrics requires a high level of skill and expertise, making them highly prized by those who appreciate the beauty and intricacy of traditional Indian weaving techniques.
