This beautiful piece of art is inspired by Kani weave of Kashmir. In Kashmiri,Ā KaniĀ means āsmall sticksā, essentially wooden spools, or BOBBINS, which are used to weave each colorĀ in separately, thereby creating the famously meticulousĀ patterns; it is a technique also known as interlockingĀ twill, tapestry,Ā because the warps and wefts are set in a diagonalĀ structure onĀ theĀ loom.Ā As they work, the weavers follow an artistic sketch of the finishedĀ designĀ along with the precise, coded instructions set out on aĀ grid. The level of detail and craftsmanship that goes into kani weaving is incredibly time-consuming.
