A mauve silk saree, so lightly coloured that the fine self-stripe running down the body is most of what you see until the border arrives.

Then it arrives completely. A deep violet ground carries a run of large scalloped arches, each one outlined in gold zari and filled with diagonal bel work, curling kalgha forms and small gold flowers. Set into them are open roses worked in cream zari and ringed in red meena, which is the one warm note in a saree that is otherwise all cool tones. The scallops step up into the mauve rather than sitting flat against it, so the border reads as a shape rather than a band.

This design is part of Kangura, an exclusive in-house collection designed by Khinkhwab. The kangura scallop is the signature the collection is named for.

Suited to receptions, evening functions and festive dinners. Pairs beautifully with polki, diamond or oxidised silver.

Fabric - Pure Banarasi Katan Silk.

Katan is a thread prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments according to requirements giving a firm structure to the background fabric. Katan is a plain-woven fabric with pure silk threads. It consists of two lines twisted together and is mainly used for the warp of light materials.


Here is such a masterpiece intricately crafted by our weavers. The beautiful aanchal with the amalgamation of Pink, yellow, green, and purple colors with intricate zari work and Konya designs all over makes ending the pallu in red color with stunning golden zari work one of our exclusive pieces. The saree has a golden body, small golden zari booties, and a red border.
 
The Weaving Technique

Banarasi Zari Brocade

Banarasi zari brocade is woven on a traditional handloom where gold zari threads are interlaced with silk in a supplementary weft technique. The pattern is programmed through a series of punched cards on the jacquard attachment, but every pass of the shuttle is done by hand. The result is a fabric with the precision of a pattern and the warmth of handwork — the gold zari visible on both sides of the fabric, a mark of genuine handwoven brocade. A single saree at this density of coverage can take a skilled weaver 10 to 15 days to complete.

Kangura is the scalloped or temple shaped edge woven along a Banarasi border. On this saree the scallops are large and outlined in gold zari so they step up into the body rather than sitting flat against it.
Meenakari is coloured silk resham woven into the motifs alongside the zari. Here it rings each rose in red so the flowers lift off the violet ground.
Wrap it in a cotton or muslin cloth and store it in a dry dark place away from direct sunlight. Refold it every few months so the creases do not set.
