Several coloured wefts run together behind the cloth and surface only where the design calls for them, which is why the motif reads as painted rather than raised. On this piece the gold ground is worked over in rust, orange and olive green, close enough in tone that the whole surface glows rather than contrasts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Neelkanthi design is built on large fanned roundels, each one opening like a half sunburst, linked by curling leaf and flower vines that fill every gap between them. It is one of the densest layouts in the tanchoi repertoire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMarigold is a new colourway in this design.
