Category: Full-Length Pure Moonga Silk Banarasi Handloom Dupatta

This beautiful piece of art is inspired by Kani weave of Kashmir. In Kashmiri, Kani means ‘small sticks’, essentially wooden spools, or BOBBINS, which are used to weave each color in separately, thereby creating the famously meticulous patterns; it is a technique also known as interlocking twill, tapestry, because the warps and wefts are set in a diagonal structure on the loom. As they work, the weavers follow an artistic sketch of the finished design along with the precise, coded instructions set out on a grid. The level of detail and craftsmanship that goes into kani weaving is incredibly time-consuming.

THE WEAVING TECHNIQUE

Weave Technique – Meenakari Floral Jaal

Meenakari weaving is a traditional Banarasi technique where extra colours are added into the motifs using supplementary threads. The result is intricate, multi-hued floral patterns that stand out vividly against the base weave. This floral jaal showcases the finesse and artistry of Banaras looms—rich, detailed, and heirloom-worthy.
