Gold as a ground, not an ornament. This handwoven pure katan silk is woven with zari across its entire surface, a fine diagonal sheen running edge to edge, so the saree glows before a single motif appears.
Over that ground float rows of chand bootas, round medallions wreathed in leaf sprays, each one holding a fine floral jaal drawn in black resham with a flash of deep red meena at its heart. The restraint is the point. Two colours of thread on a field of gold, and the effect is more opulent than a dozen shades could manage.
A chocolate brown border frames the drape in a thin, sharp line, and the pallu carries the medallions to the very end. Wear it with a red blouse as styled here, or with black and rubies after dark. This is the saree for the guest who ends up in everyone's photographs. Comes with a blouse piece.
