A cotton Banarasi saree handwoven in Varanasi, the body woven in an all-over multicolour check — squares of blue, green, teal, pink and purple that shift like a colour grid across the soft cotton. A contrast black-and-gold border runs along the edge, carrying a row of woven kalga (leaf) motifs, with a deeper pallu to finish.

The check is built directly on the loom: the multicolour grid comes from interlacing dyed warp and weft threads in planned colour blocks, so the pattern is woven into the cloth rather than printed on top. The contrast border is woven on the traditional Banarasi handloom, the kalga buti picked out motif by motif against a black ground.

Light to wear and easy to drape, cotton Banarasi is the everyday face of the weave — the handloom craft of Varanasi in a fabric you can wear through the day. The bright checks make it a cheerful pick for daytime events and work-to-festive dressing.

Suited to daytime functions, office festives and casual celebrations — pairs well with oxidised silver or temple jewellery.

The image shows the saree styled on a model for drape reference only — the actual colour is as shown in the product photos.
