Katan is a thread, prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments according to requirement gives a firm structure to the background fabric. Katan is a plain-woven fabric with pure silk threads.
Weave – Tanchoi Weave in Tested zari
Tanchoi brought to India through Chinese traders, is a traditional weaving technique, popular for intricate designs, involving single or double warp on different colors on the weft. It involves intensive labor and time thus making it an exclusive piece. Tanchoi is a warp-faced, satin base fabric that has a single warp or double warp with design on weft from one to five colors. Both sides of Tanchoi are finished and it doesn't have a float on either side. This saree is woven with pure resham threads.
Tested zari or Half Fine Zari: It is also called imitation zari because it has the external features of real zari and thus, resembles the real zari in terms of shine. This variety is similar to real zari except copper lametta used in place of silver and silver gilding is done on copper wire. For gold zari, the tested zari is electroplated with the gold solution.
