Royal purple is a colour that commands — and this Katan silk gives it room to do exactly that. The body is plain, the full depth of the purple ground uninterrupted from selvedge to border. The work is concentrated at the edges: a wide meenakari phulwar bel border running the full length in red, orange, pink, and gold silk weft, dense floral scrolls and blooms covering the border band in the alfi technique — gold and silver tone alternating across the metallic threads as the fabric catches light.

The pallu is a diamond ilayecha zari jaal — fine geometric coverage in warm gold, precise and luminous. A narrow diamond zari stripe runs the selvedge, closing the piece cleanly. A saree where the ground and the border each carry equal weight.

The Weaving Technique

Weaving Technique – Tanchoi with Kadwa Border

The saree is woven using the Tanchoi weaving technique, where multiple silk threads are interlaced to create intricate patterns without any floats on the back, resulting in a smooth, tapestry-like texture. Complementing this is the Kadwa border, meticulously handwoven with silver zari threads — a hallmark of fine Banarasi craftsmanship that requires exceptional skill and patience.
