A marigold yellow sateen silk kaftan in our Turkish Nilufer print — an all-over Penç motif drawn from the decorative arts of the Ottoman court. Tessellating florals in pink, orange and turquoise spread across a warm yellow ground, the V-neck drawing in at the waist with a tie finished in a gold-disc and tassel latkan.

The Penç is one of the classic Ottoman motifs, taken from natural plant forms and drawn as a flower seen from above — its petals named in sequence from yek berk to şeş berk. Printed here on soft-lustre sateen silk, the motif carries that centuries-old design language into an easy, fluid kaftan.

Suited to resort evenings, mehndi and haldi mornings, brunches and festive at-homes — wear loose or drawn in at the waist.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Fabric: Sateen Silk: A satin weave is a type of fabric weave that produces a characteristically glossy, smooth or lustrous material, typically with a glossy top surface and a dull back

Motif : Carnation - KARANFİL

Carnation motifs were used on fabrics for Sultans’ caftans in a row on
sliding axes to provide the feeling of eternity instead of being used in oval schemes.
The range of these fabrics is preserved in museums and collections throughout the
world.

The Weaving Technique

Digital textile printing is described as any ink jet based method of printing colorants onto fabric. The inks used in digital printing are formulated specifically for each type of fiber (cotton, silk, polyester, nylon, etc). During the printing process, the fabric is fed through the printer using rollers and ink is applied to the surface in the form of thousands of tiny droplets. The fabric is then finished using heat and/or steam to cure the ink (some inks also require washing and drying).
