Dahlias in silver and gold spread edge to edge on this one, an unbroken garden woven over turquoise georgette. Beneath the blooms, hand tied bandhani dots fill every gap in the ground, knotted before dyeing so the whole field shimmers white at close range.

The border turns architectural. Scalloped mehraab arches run the length of the drape, each one holding a cluster of dahlias in green meenakari with touches of rose pink and sky blue, and a finer meenakari bel crowns the upper edge. A plain firozi anchal closes the piece and gives the eye somewhere to rest.

Cool, fresh and unusual for bandhani, this is the drape for daytime functions. Wear it over white or ivory and it reads like water in sunlight, or pair it with sea green for tone on tone.

THE WEAVING TECHNIQUE

Weave - Cutwork

The cutwork weave technique, also known as Jangla, embodies intricate artistry. It involves the intricate weaving of vegetation motifs like creepers, flowers, and birds, reminiscent of a jungle. These exquisite patterns are exclusively woven in gold and silver zari threads on a Jacquard loom, creating an opulent and ornate fabric.

Bandhani is a popular tie and dye technique that involves twisting, tying, and dyeing to produce some gorgeous patterns. Bandhani generally uses natural colours, predominantly yellow, blue, green and black. Each colour has its own significance. For example, red is a symbol of good fortune to a bride and yellow is a sign of spring time and joy. The designs on the fabric are formed by a combination of dots that are first block printed on the fabric. Some popular designs are the sikharibhat (jungle scene), ambaa dal (mango orchard) and chakalipopat (sparrow, parrot).
