A sea green katan silk saree handwoven in Varanasi in the resham tanchoi technique, the soft mint body patterned with an all-over floral jaal in delicate pink and gold tonal resham. The pallu opens into a flowing jaal of blooms and leaf sprays.

Tanchoi is among the finest of Banarasi weaves — multiple resham weft threads woven into a smooth, satin-like surface with a clean reverse, so the soft colour is carried in the silk itself. The pale green and rose palette gives the saree a gentle, contemporary elegance.

Suited to festive gatherings, receptions and celebrations — pairs well with ruby, garnet or coral jewellery.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Fabric - Pure Banarasi Katan Silk.

Katan is a thread, prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments according to requirements giving a firm structure to the background fabric. Katan is a plain woven fabric with pure silk threads.

The Weaving Technique

Satin tanchoi weave is a traditional Indian hand weaving technique that uses a single or double warp and two to five colors on the weft to create lustrous silk fabric with intricate patterns. The fabric is characterized by its satin finish, which is achieved by weaving the warp threads over at least four weft threads at a time.

Satin tanchoi weavers use a variety of techniques to create intricate patterns, including jala (perforated paper or metal stencil), buti (embroidered motifs), and khari (gold or silver zari thread).

Satin tanchoi weaving is a complex and time-consuming process, but it produces a fabric that is both beautiful and durable.
