A sage green tussar georgette saree carrying a full meenakari garden.

The jaal is upright rather than trailing. Flowering stems rise in a close vertical repeat across the whole body, each one topped with a single open bloom, and the colours rotate as you move across the width. Magenta, vermillion red, mustard and a deep brown, all in resham, set against leaves worked in ivory and a soft blue grey. The blue grey is cool where everything else is warm, and it is what stops the flowers from reading as loud.

The pallu goes the other way entirely. A wide silver zari panel filled with a fine diamond jaal, edged with rows of kangura triangles that step into the green. Silver here rather than gold, which keeps the sage clean rather than pushing it olive.

The motifs are cutwork, woven across the full width with the floats cut away by hand afterwards.

Tussar georgette has a dry grainy hand and a soft fall, heavier than plain georgette and far less slippery to drape.

Made in Varanasi.
